Zahara de los Atunes

Where you see the sand before you park.

Eight kilometres of open beach, water that changes colour with the levante wind and a whitewashed old town that still smells of the almadraba tuna nets. Zahara de los Atunes is the most sought-after of the three — and you understand why the moment you arrive. The light falls differently at eight in the evening, and the sunsets last until you decide to let them go.

Barbate

The south as it has always been.

Here the fish has been out of the water a few hours at most and flamenco is sung in bars with no sign above the door. Barbate keeps its character intact — that of the fishing town it has always been. Our office is here, which is why we know it in detail: the fish market, the almadraba, the beach bars that open only in summer and the ones that open all year.

Los Caños de Meca

Where the coast is still wild.

Cliffs, pine woods that reach the sea and the Trafalgar lighthouse marking the horizon. Los Caños de Meca is not advertised — it is recommended. There is no promenade lined with souvenir shops here; there are paths, coves and quiet. The corner of the Costa de la Luz for anyone who needs air, sky and little else.
